LINDA ROSEWALL

Linda Rosewall’s artistic path was cemented during her childhood. She was inspired by her farther, an accomplished musician and composer who raised his six children as a performing family act.

The experience of traveling the United States and Canada in a small airplane piloted by her father provided the opportunity for Linda to capture these moments on her small Kodak Instamatic Camera.

At the age of 18, she enrolled at Columbia College of Fine Arts Chicago. During her studies, Linda apprenticed under photographer Norman Bilisko and later worked with Dennis Manarchy, Gregory Heisler, Lorraine Sylvestre and Raymond Meier.

Linda opened her first studio in Sydney, Australia in 1994 where Vogue Australia became the first major magazine to feature her still life images. Today, her clients include Harper’s Bazaar, China Vogue, GQ, Marie Claire, Grazia, Women’s Health and Men’s Health magazines.

Inspired by the Australian landscape, Linda’s photography featuring breathtaking fauna and flora caught the attention of skincare and fragrance industries. Combined with botanical studies, still life and the beauty genre continue to be the central theme of her works, with large format in-camera captures reminiscent of the delicate artistry of Irving Penn and Robert Mapplethorpe.

The Flora \ Botanica photographs are created through the process and refinement of her dedication to still life photography. Rosewall’s fascination of botanical studies continues to grow and cultivate as the artist explores life as a botanist by growing her own plants and species to better understand their natural beauty on a daily basis from her garden at Lake Como in Northern Italy.

Photographically, the botanical subjects are treated as character studies/portraits through which the wit and grace of the formal studio session is practiced.

Ultimately, the goal is to produce an image that encapsulates a sensitivity to the quality and character of light as well as a striking posture of each unique specimen.

Linda is based in Como, Italy and travels to New York, Australia and throughout Europe for commissions and creative inspiration..
